About The Event
The fencing community is mourning the great loss of James Williams, 3x British Olympian, Coach, Mentor, Commentator, Friend, Champion and All Round Good Guy.
Having cried just about as many tears as we thought was humanly possible, we felt we’d like to hold an event to honour the spirit and work ethic JW brought to fencing every day. The event format is social and will be based on the 48er format of progressive poules.
The aim of the day is to bring together as many sabreurs as possible, both those who knew James and those who didn’t because you will almost certainly have benefited from his experience and influence directly or indirectly through our sport.
In true JW army PT style, we won’t be issuing yellow cards, instead you’ll be told to go “hang ya self” off the wall bars after the offending poule fight, red cards will require special penalty (in line with your fitness level), think “drop and gimme 10” (sit ups? Burpees? Squats? Whatever you can manage). And for anyone who’s not at piste at the right time, it’ll be turtle runs (mat on back) or mat jumps!
Aiming to keep this low cost as we want as many people as possible to come together to celebrate the amazing contribution James made to our sport and the impact he had on all of us.
If you haven’t fenced in a while, dust off that kit, maybe oil those joints while you are at it or give us a shout and we’ll arrange to loan you what you need.
Non sabreurs welcome!
